Ceremony plan

Oscar Bernhardt Ensemble bassistThe wedding ceremony is a special and wonderful, poignant part of the day.

You have a choice of ceremony plan; about how you do it. Do you want your wedding ceremony to be very traditional, or try something new and different? Traditional is beautiful if that’s what you want (I did!), but so is a ceremony plan that is a little different and has a few personalised features.

Here are a few ideas you might like to consider when thinking about your ceremony plan.

You probably have a clear idea about whether you want to get married in a church or another venue. Whichever you choose, consider having live music during your ceremony.

This can work well in a number of ways. As your guests arrive, sit and wait before the ceremony they can enjoy the sounds and pleasant atmosphere created by live music. It can also provide a talking point and is visual.

Musicians can play the bride (and whoever gives her away) up the aisle, and then play the bride and groom, once they’re happily married, back down the aisle.

There may also be times in the ceremony where a pause in the proceedings – for example when the wedding register is being signed, when the musicians can contribute by playing a tune. Occasionally the bride and groom may have a friend or relative sing a song at some point in the proceedings, backed by the musicians, or have the musicians play a particular song that has a special significance.

A wedding ceremony I attended in church was filled with laughter and delight when the bride and groom kissed and then walked down the aisle to the strains of ‘Hey nanny ding dong alang alang alang, oh life could be a dream, if I could take you up to paradise up above…’ That set the tone for a really great day, putting everyone in a happy light joyful and relaxed mood.

At another wedding ceremony the swing/jazz band started off playing the bride and her father up the aisle with the sombre wedding march, and then burst into a swing version of the march when the bride was halfway up the aisle. This too had a similar positive effect and enhanced the enjoyment of the day.

Regardless of how you plan your wedding ceremony, consider having music as part of it to make your special day even more magical.
