About 1950s bands
For 1950’s bands, well, let's keep
the Sinatra, Dean Martin and the Rat Pack, Bobby Darrin and Music to
Watch Girls By.
Swing music keeps swinging, plus the Louis
Jordan Jump Jive and add some of the early rock ‘n’ roll of
Fats Domino, Bill Haley and the Comets, and yes, the young Elvis
Presley!
Some great songs that characterise the 1950s:
- Dean Martin's’ 'That’s Amore'
- Tony Bennet's 'Rags to Riches' and 'I left My Heart In San Francisco'
- Sinatra’s 'Come Fly With Me'
- Bobby Darrin’s 'Mack The Knife' and 'Beyond the Sea'
- Some of the iconic rock ‘n’ roll tunes that blasted into earshot were:
- Bill Haley’s 'Rock Around The Clock'
- Fats Domino’s 'Blueberry Hill'
- Elvis Presley's 'Heartbreak Hotel', 'All Shook Up', 'Hound Dog' and 'Teddy Bear'
- Carl Perkins’ 'Blue Suede Shoes'
- Louis Jordan's 'Aint Nobody Here But Us Chickens'
Not to mention The Everly Brothers, Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis and Buddy Holly.
Other artists that help evoke a flavour of
the 1950s would include Andy Williams, Pat Boone, Eartha Kitt, Dinah
Washington, Doris Day and Perry Como.
So if you’re looking for a band for
a 1950s theme night you might want an out-an-out rock ‘n’
roll band. Or you might prefer a swing / jump jive / rock
‘n’ roll band that can play a number of these styles and
can evoke a great 1950s vibe for your party. Either way, you won't be
able to keep people off the dance floor!
